Experience Montreal’s Nuit Blanche
Montreal is notorious for it’s festivals, including Montreal en Lumiere, one of the biggest winter festivals in the world. The annual celebration draws approximately 900,000 people to experience the winter wonders of the city. The programs combines a variety of events from performing arts, gastronomy and free outdoor family activities.
The best is saved for last, on February 28th with the infamous Nuit Blanche. This year will be it’s 12th edition, where fans are invited to revel in an abundance of activities that last all throughout the night! No matter where you are in the city, you can be sure to find something exciting to take part in, whether it be in the Quartier des Spectacles et Centre-Ville (Downtown), Vieux-Montreal, Plateau-Mount-Royal or Mile-End.
A free shuttle service is available to help everyone get from one activity to another, in addition to the Metro remaining open the entire night. With over 200 activities taking place on this special evening, it can be hard to choose which ones to attend. Here’s a list quick glance at a few fun free events that will be taking place:
24 Hours of Vinyl
7 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Le Bleury – Bar a Vinyle
If you’re into music, this event is for you! For 24 consecutive hours some of the city’s best Djs and taste-makers will be exclusively spinning vinyl records. Music is My Sanctuary, a team who travels the world hosting music events, created the event, so you can be sure that it will be a successful musical experience.
Candlelit Yoga Night
9 p.m. to 3 a.m.
Soham Yoga
Soham yoga is offering 7 free yoga sessions of 45 minutes. The class is open to people of all levels. If you are looking to find some peace and balance after a night of mayhem, cool off with some deep breathing at a late night yoga session.
Dance Squad
9 p.m. to 1 a.m.
Danse Couleur – Ste.Catherine Street
The Dance Squad will be moving across Ste.Catherine Street creating an interactive sparkling path and they go along. The dancers will be offering short choreographed performances at various spots on the outdoor site. Stay warm by following them down the street for a unique live and illuminated performance!
Improvise your night!
12:15 a.m. to 1:30 a.m.
Place des Arts – Theatre Jean-Duceppe
Experienced actors will be improvising on stage and you might even have the chance to perform with them! If you like acting or are up for an entertaining show, drop by the theater Jean-Duceppe.
A Night of Patterns
2 p.m. to 2 a.m.
Espace Pop
Learn something new about design and get creative with textiles at the Espace Pop. In the afternoon bring your kids for a fun workshop where families will explore the world of patterns.
Free Screenings
11 p.m. to 3 a.m.
Cinema Beaubien
Make this night a movie night by watching a free screening of a short film or catch the surprise feature film screening if you happen to walk in at the right time! Popcorn is offered as well.
Laughter in the Night!
8 p.m. to 3 a.m.
Le Gesu
If you’re in the mood to laugh this is the place to be! Twenty graduates from Ecole nationale de l’humour will be putting their education to use by making people giggle and smile. Hosted by Jeremy Du Temple-Quirion, this is an event that will be sure to make you feel funny, in the best way possible.
Argentine Tango Night
8 p.m., 9:45 p.m., 11:30 p.m. and 1:15 a.m.
Studio Tango Montreal
Get your groove on and experience the beauty of the Argentine Tango! Professional instructors will be giving participants lessons on the basics of this passionate dance style. Don’t forget to bring your dancing shoes!
